Blind Cooperation: The Evolution of Redundancy via Ignorance

چکیده
One curious phenomenon of several social groups is that they are ‘redundant’ in the sense contain more cooperators than strictly needed to complete certain group tasks, such as foraging. Redundancy puzzling because redundant particularly susceptible invasion by defectors. Yet, redundancy can be found formed a wide range organisms, including insects and microbes. Birch ([2012]) has recently argued coercive behaviours might account for using insect colonies case study. However, microbial examples suggest evolve without behaviours. This paper formulates an explanation does not require targeted punishment defectors; instead, it proposes due ignorance. Specifically, suggested evolves by-product selection when members have opt whether cooperate or while being blind strategies others. Accordingly, possessing information about undermine rather facilitate cooperation within groups.

18 Willingness to lay down one’s life for a group of non-kin, well documented historically and ethnographically, represents an evolutionary puzzle. Building on research in social psychology, we develop a mathematical model showing how conditioning cooperation on previous shared experience can allow individually costly pro-group behavior to evolve. The model generates a series of predictions tha...
متن کاملBlind Vs. Embedded Indirect Reciprocity And The Evolution Of Cooperation
The evolution of cooperation is one of the fundamental problems of both social sciences and biology. It is difficult to explain how a large extent of cooperation could evolve if individual free riding always provides higher benefits and chances of survival. In absence of direct reciprocation, it has been suggested that indirect reciprocity could potentially solve the problem of large scale coop...
